IT Firm PAETEC to Open Data Center in Massachusetts

IT firm PAETEC Holding (www.paetec.com) announced on Thursday its plans for an expansive, high-tech data center in Andover, Massachusetts, about 24 miles north of Boston.

The company currently has 1.4 million square feet of data center space, with facilities in Bethlehem and Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

This new facility marks the first in a series of new centers the company is planning to open nationwide over the next five years.

Scheduled to open in June, the data center will serve and support companies in New England, along the East Coast, and around the country.

"This data center will meet the growing data-oriented demands of large businesses around the country," says Charles Field, vice president and general manager for the New England region at PAETEC. "As common business applications are moving towards the cloud, we’ll be there to serve them with the industry-leading service our customers have come to expect."

The two-story, 92,700 square feet facility has over 40,000 square feet of raised floor space available for customers to colocate their servers, routers and other communication equipment.

Supported by a staff of 11 with a 24-hour Technical Assistance Center, the center has redundant power to the grid, backed-up by five 1400 horsepower, 1MW generators with 30,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

The center features 2,000 tons of cooling capacity to maintain the center at the optimum temperature for customer equipment.

In addition to standard data center offerings, customers will have access to PAETEC’s range of services such as data back-up and recovery, dedicated server, hosted network security services and the ability to centralize an IP-based PBX in the data center to serve employees.

The center will be protected by the latest advancements in physical security, including precautions against flooding, fire and natural disasters. Customers will also have access to the facility’s lounge and built-in fitness center.
