Energy City plans major data centre
Qtel has signed a deal with Energy City Qatar to operate the latter’s world-scale data centre at its Lusail development for 16 years.
Under the agreement’s terms, Energy City Qatar will offer some of the “most advanced” data communications services and solutions ever provided in the region in collaboration with Qtel.
Energy City Qatar will build the data centre and Qtel will provide full support to operate the facility and extend its services to local, regional and international energy companies, which are tenants at the Lusail development.
The data centre is expected to become functional in 2012.
Qtel will render 24x7 service to Energy City Qatar for its proposed Internet data Centre and Network Operations Centre at Lusail.
Being built over 1.2sq km of land, the $2.6bn integrated energy centre will be home to global and regional energy companies upon completion.
The agreement was signed by Qtel Group CEO Dr Nasser Marafih and Energy City Qatar CEO Hesham Ismail al-Emadi.
